Sparwood council sets special meeting behind closed doors
District of Sparwood council scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday, March 31 at 6 p.m. in council chambers at the municipal office on Spruce Avenue, with the published agenda showing little public business before a planned closed session.
According to the agenda, the meeting was set to begin with a call to order from Mayor David Wilks, followed by approval of the agenda. Council was then expected to consider a motion to close the meeting to the public under Section 90(1)(a), which deals with personal information.
No further public discussion items were listed on the one page agenda before adjournment.
The agenda package also included a strategic priorities chart for March 2026 on page 2, outlining a wide range of corporate and operational priorities across the district. Among the items marked as current council and CAO priorities were the wastewater treatment plant, hot tub repairs, recreation facility options, development cost charges and a zoning bylaw draft. The chart also listed future priorities including Fire Hall No. 2 funding, industrial land development, a housing strategy, future RCMP obligations and down-town zone expansion.
On the administrative side, the chart identified work underway in areas including capital works, corporate services, finance, fire protection, information technology, planning and development, human resources and operations. Several target dates were attached to those items through spring and into late 2027 for the wastewater treatment plant.
Because the agenda identified the main purpose of the special meeting as an in camera matter involving personal information, any decisions arising from that discussion would typically be reported publicly only if council returned to open session to pass a resolution.
