Ninth annual fundraiser supports Hillcrest Fish and Game and the Lundbreck Fire Brigade
The ninth annual Australia Day event, hosted by Northback, drew a strong crowd and raised more than $45,000 for local organizations, continuing a tradition of community support that has contributed nearly $300,000 since 2015.
Despite some uncertainty leading up to the event, this year’s Australia Day sold out quickly, with 265 attendees filling the venue for an evening of fundraising, entertainment, and camaraderie.
“The community really came out to support this in a big way,” said Rina Blacklaws, a representative from Northback, “It demonstrates just how connected our community is.”
The event featured 45 silent auction items and 10 live auction items, including tool sets, gift baskets, Calgary Flames tickets, a smoker, and a golf course patio party package. Final fundraising totals are still being tallied, with the company’s matching contribution yet to be factored in, but early estimates indicate more than $45,000 was raised.
Proceeds from this year’s event will support Hillcrest Fish and Game and the Lundbreck Fire Brigade, two organizations chosen from multiple applicants.
“We’re always happy to support community initiatives,” Blacklaws said, “It’s difficult to decide each year, but we’re honoured to help where we can—both by raising funds and bringing awareness to these organizations and their missions.”
This year’s theme, “A Night at the Races”, was inspired by the Melbourne Cup, Australia’s famous horse racing event. Attendees embraced the theme, dressing in elegant race-day attire for a night of celebration.
“I missed the event this year because I was sick, but I looked through every single photo from the fun photo booth,” Blacklaws said, “Everyone really got into the theme, and it was just a fantastic evening for a great cause.”
With another successful Australia Day in the books, Northback and its partners remain committed to supporting local causes through future events.
“It’s about more than just fundraising—it’s about bringing the community together and making a difference,” Blacklaws said.
