New Travelling Exhibit at the Art Gallery

The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) has been supporting a provincial travelling exhibit program (TREX) for over 45 years now.  It provides every Albertan with the opportunity to enjoy visual art exhibitions in their community.

An AFA sponsored travelling exhibit now showing at the Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery, from March 5th until April 8th, is an intriguing collection of artist’s Mary Whale’s 12” by 17” water colour expressive portraits of older adults.

It is created in a unique process of interviewing and portrait sitting that brings about reminiscences and reaction. Mary recorded the dialogue between herself and those that sat for her, extracts of which are posted next to their portraits. The sitters were encouraged to contemplate a quote from Kierkegaard that reads, “ Life can only be understood backwards but must be lived forwards.”  This exhibit is well worth seeing and don’t forget to drop by their lovely gift shop!
