EVR raises nearly $949K for BC Children’s Hospital

Elk Valley Resources raised $948,954 for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation through this year’s Mining for Miracles campaign, marking the company’s most successful campaign to date.

The funds will support the BC Children’s Hospital Centre for Health Complexity, a first-of-its-kind facility designed to help children with complex chronic health conditions.

EVR employees, contractors and suppliers contributed through several fundraising efforts, including the truck drop, contractor breakfast and pie throw events.

Craig Bishop, Laura Gislason, Shane Green and Ernie Canlas were the top four fundraisers in the province, raising a combined $802,334. First-time pie throw participants Michael O’Shaughnessy and Dallas Cain raised a combined $146,620.

EVR raised more money than any other company participating in the signature Pie Throw event.

Richard Whittington, co-chair of Mining for Miracles and EVR’s vice-president of development and projects, credited the campaign’s success to the enthusiasm of employees, contractors and site champions.

“It’s inspiring to see everyone come together to support children in need,” Whittington said in the announcement.

He also thanked Tammy Ogden, EVR’s co-ordinator of community relations and a Mining for Miracles committee member, for leading the campaign with support from EVR colleagues.

Team North, made up of Craig Bishop and Ernie Canlas from Greenhills Operations and Fording River Operations, raised $401,425. Team South, made up of Shane Green and Laura Gislason from Line Creek Operations and Elkview Operations, raised $400,909.

Dallas Cain from Sparwood Operations raised $99,863, while Michael O’Shaughnessy, representing Coal Growth Operations and Vancouver Head Office, raised $46,757.

EVR’s total contribution came to $948,954.
