Coleman Community Market returns August 1

After more than 20 years of bringing vendors and visitors together, the Coleman Community Market will return to the curling rink area at the Sportsplex on Aug. 1.

The market began on the streets of Coleman before moving to Flumerfelt Park. Organizers relocated it to the Sportsplex last year because of concerns about rain, and the indoor location proved successful.

Market president Jane Ann said organizers decided to remain in the curling space this year because some volunteers are away or dealing with age-related and other health concerns. Holding the event indoors also eliminates the cumbersome work of setting up tents.

“We have a great group of volunteers who help us out every year,” Jane Ann said. “We couldn’t do it without them.”

Several vendors have participated in the market for much of its history, including Gathering Dust Photography, metalworker Ken Rothe and potter Leon.

Visitors can expect food products, handmade goods, jewellery and books by local authors. Snacks, pizza and drinks will also be available, along with 50/50 tickets and a silent auction.

Local entertainers will perform throughout the day, helping create what Jane Ann described as a hometown atmosphere.

Organizers hope the market gives residents and visitors an opportunity to discover vendors they may not see elsewhere while reconnecting with familiar faces.

“We hope attendees will enjoy the vendors that are unique to our market, see something new and enjoy visiting with friends, neighbours and visitors,” Jane Ann said.

The market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1. Prospective vendors can register through the Coleman Community Market website, where they can also find contact information for organizers.
